My comedy screenplay, “Ernie,” made it to the top 15% of scripts submitted to the Austin Film Festival.

While that’s nice, unless a script makes it to the top one or two percent, it really isn’t good enough.

That means it’s back to the drawing board.  I like the story but I need to work through it again to see if the story or the characters or the writing needs additional work.

If you’re a writer, you have to learn to enjoy the revision process.

Remember the goal is to improve the story.

To make it sparkle!

I need to make the story (in this case a screenplay) shine so the next person to read it doesn’t think it’s good (top 15%) but thinks it’s the best thing they’ve read in years and will be willing to part with some of their money in order to have the right to make the film.

I love the writing process.
