Ryan Britt has an interesting article on why NOT to set Sci-Fi stories on earth.Earth is OVER! Why Pop Sci-Fi Needs to Ditch Terra Firma Ryan Britt
I have one Sci-Fi novel, The Harvest, set firmly on Earth. My other Sci-Fi novel, The Outer Rims, is very far from the planet. You probably could guess that from the title. What? You haven’t heard of The Outer Rims? Oh, mon ami, where have you been? Make haste! Run! Fly! Nay, click and order it immediately from the Kindle Serial store!!! (Sorry about the crass commercial message, but episode six comes out next Tuesday.)
As for future (a nice word when talking about Sci-Fi) stories, I am developing two novels and one short story that are off-Earth. But I also have one story (I haven’t decided if I will develop it as a novel or screenplay) that is set firmly on Earth. A post-apocalyptic Earth to be sure, but Earth none the less.
If you’re into Sci-Fi, check out Ryan’s article and see if you agree or disagree with his reasons.
