CNET is a respected technology site covering the electronic world we live in. It also is a subsidiary of CBS. Recently, forty journalists at CNET unanimously selected the Hopper Sling as the most innovative product shown at the recent Consumer Electronics Show. CBS doesn’t like the product (which allows viewers to watch shows without commercials) and ordered CNET the pull it’s recommendation from their website and then ordered the editor to lie to the public on why it was pulled.
If this type of thing is happening over an electronic gadget, what else is being done that we don’t know about?

A WRITER’S THOUGHTS:
These types of news items generate many story ideas.
How about a sci-fi world where such control is so commonplace, the people being controlled don’t even realize it? What would that world look like? How would someone break out of the system if the “sanitized truth” is the “only truth” they hear?
Or it could be a political thriller, with the villain being in the mind control (spin) business. What if the hero began having second thoughts on what he/she was so successfully doing? Would he/she be tolerated or taken care of? Lots of ways to go with this.
Or it could focus on an honest individual in a business being asked to lie by a boss. Would the person give up his/her “honesty” in order to keep his/her job? Maybe this is a short story or a short film. Perhaps the opening scene of a novel.
